A game Made for a Jam
Hi!
So Freedom Drive wasnt always like it is now, it has grown and or changed dramatically from inception.
As Part of the Pirate Software 2022.4 Game Jam, you could commit 1 week to creating a GDD or Game Design Document. Being the first ive made was a great experience and i recommend at least trying to use one for your next game. Even if you are a solo Developer.
I used many references to create the GDD including some i found claiming to be the original Grand Theft Auto GDD and even the Diablo 1 GDD. The Devs at Blizzard were certainly ahead of the time.
My Game Design Document for Freedom Drive began Life as Project Survive. It had little to go on, a genre i had chosen and the Pirate Software 2022.4 Theme, Nothing is Explained. I feel the theme was the greatest challenge because i wanted to stand out. So i drew up a plan starting at the theme and explored the surroundings. What genres could i use? how will players know what to do? why will players want to play this game? I came up with quite alot. But everything was too cliche, or similar to what i might expect other Jamers to create.
So i did what any sane person would. Freaked out.
I did back flips and ended up with game that didnt really match the theme. But what is the theme? Nothing is Explained? Well i took it not so literally and decided im going to make an intuitive game. One where you are told the controls and let loose. Good Luck Have Fun. Discover what things do. My goal was to make the game seem to explain it self by you doing and cause and effect.
Thanks for reading mates.
